Colouring Dry Embossing

Hi everyone.  There are a few different ways to colour embossed images.  This month we experimented with three; sponging, watercolouring, and inkpad swiping.   There is a link to a video for each of the different ways if you want to check them out.


1)  Sponging
Supplies:
  • Embossing Folder (3D works best)
  • Cardstock
  • Inks
  • Sponge Dauber
Technique Instructions for Sponging:

Following the top video above ...
  • Emboss cardstock
  • Use small or detail blending brushes and light pressure to add ink to embossing.

2)  Watercolouring
Supplies:
  • Embossing Folder (3D works best)
  • Watercolour Paper
  • Inks or Watercolours
  • Watercolor Brush(s)
Technique Instructions for Watercolouring:

Following the video above ...
  • Emboss watercolour paper or water-friendly card (Bristol, Mixed Media, etc.)
  • Pick up colour from palette using a damp brush; watercolour embossed image.

3) Inkpad Swipe
Supplies:
  • Embossing Folder (3D works best)
  • Distress Oxide ink in light, medium and dark shades
Technique Instructions for Ink Swiping

Following video above...
  • Emboss on dark colored cardstock
  • Swipe raised areas with light colored ink. Go over raised area multiple times until you are happy with coverage.
  • Swipe darker ink over some parts of raised area
  • Swipe a little bit with darkest ink
