Colouring Dry Embossing

Hi everyone.  There are a few different ways to colour embossed images.  This month we experimented with three; sponging, watercolouring, and inkpad swiping.   There is a link to a video for each of the different ways if you want to check them out.

1)  Sponging

Video:  Soft Looking Card with Pigment Inks (7.41)

Supplies:

• Embossing Folder (3D works best)
• Cardstock
• Inks
• Sponge Dauber

Technique Instructions for Sponging:

Following the top video above ...

• Emboss cardstock
• Use small or detail blending brushes and light pressure to add ink to embossing.

2)  Watercolouring

Video:  Watercoloring with 3D Embossing Folders (7.27)

Supplies:

• Embossing Folder (3D works best)
• Watercolour Paper
• Inks or Watercolours
• Watercolor Brush(s)

Technique Instructions for Watercolouring:

Following the video above ...

• Emboss watercolour paper or water-friendly card (Bristol, Mixed Media, etc.)
• Pick up colour from palette using a damp brush; watercolour embossed image.

3) Inkpad Swipe

Video:  Ink Pad Swiping on 3D Embossing Folders with Erum Tasneem(3:39)

Supplies:

• Embossing Folder (3D works best)
• Distress Oxide ink in light, medium and dark shades

Technique Instructions for Ink Swiping

Following video above...

• Emboss on dark colored cardstock
• Swipe raised areas with light colored ink. Go over raised area multiple times until you are happy with coverage.
• Swipe darker ink over some parts of raised area
• Swipe a little bit with darkest ink

Off the Edge - Design Element

Hi everyone.

We are excited to welcome Nancy (scandinancy creates) to our Group of Seven Cardmakers.  Nancy and all the group members have been dear friends for many years.  She is an amazingly talented card maker and will make a fantastic addition to our Group.  Welcome Nancy.  We're so happy you are here, sweet friend!!

We are adding something different to our list this month.  There is no technique to learn.  Instead we are including a Design Element that we used to create our cards.

Ink Blending (DIs) on Coloured Card

Hi everyone.  Today's technique is fun and easy ... and it makes beautiful cards quickly.  Using coloured card with a heat embossed image and then adding sponging --- you can see why this technique is quick.  You get a very dramatic looking card with dark colours.

Supplies:

• Medium / Dark card stock
• Line image stamp
• Anti-static powder
• Versamark (or Pigment ink that matches your embossing powder)
• Embossing Powder (silver or bright gold will show up best on dark card stock)
• Heat tool
• Distress Inks
• Sponges
• Water mister
• Metallic ink or white acrylic paint for splattering

Technique Instructions:

Following the video above ...

• Sprinkle / rub anti-static powder onto card stock
• Stamp the outline image onto medium/dark card stock
• Sprinkle with embossing powder and heat set until melted (silver and gold embossing powders work best)
• Using a distress ink that is darker than the card stock, sponge around the outside of the line image, leaving the center with no sponging
• Using a very dark ink (black or dark colour that matches your card stock), sponge just around the outside edge
• Use the first colour to sponge over the two colours to blend them together
• Use paper towel to wipe ink that sits on top of embossed image
• Splatter the image with inks that work well with your colour combination
• Spritz the image to create water droplets - let dry (optional)
