Torn Edge - Design Element

Hi everyone.

This month we are adding our second Design Element to Group of Seven. Torn edges add so much to our cards. Not only are they the perfect way to add a snowhill for Christmas / Winter cards, but torn edges add something special to any occasion card. Try adding it as part of a layered design with coloured or stamped images (or both) that are revealed by the torn edge, or use a torn edge to create a mask for sponging a section of your card ... or as an element on a sentiment banner. Our group has come up with a variety of ways to add this Design Element to your cards. We hope you are inspired. :)

Smooshing with Cling Wrap

Hi everyone. This month we are revisiting an older technique that is lots of fun and makes the most beautiful, vibrant backgrounds. This time, the group is trying this technique with a variety of mediums. Any type of ink (Distress reinkers; Doxide reinkers; Dye reinkers; powered inks, spray inks, stains, watercolour paint, acrylic paint, alcohol inks, etc.) may be used to add colour to a water-friendly substrate (mixed media paper, watercolour paper, bristol, coated card stock, yupo - for AIs, etc.). We have samples of a variety of products used.

Supplies:

Water-friendly paper (Mixed Media, Watercolour, Coated Card stock, Bristol, etc.). For the majority of the group, mixed media gave the best results. Bristol and Coated card work great too. Some had success with watercolour paper. It was agreed that regular card stock doesn't work well to create cells with the cling wrap.
Inks (2-3 colours works best) - DI or DOX Re-inkers, Alcohol Inks (on Yupo or glossy card stock), Powdered Inks, etc.
Cling Wrap slightly bigger than your card (don't make it too big)
Water mister or shimmer spray

Technique Instructions:

Follow video above ...

Make sure your piece of cling wrap is slightly larger than your card panel
Add ink to your work surface
Mist with water and smoosh (press card into your wet ink, twist, pull up ... repeat until you're happy with the results) your card into the wet medium
Place cling wrap over top and scrunch up cling wrap to create a textured design
Weight down your card so it dries fairly flat (keep the cling wrap scrunched up on top)
Let air dry for a few hours (or overnight) before removing cling wrap
Let air dry completely before making into a card
